When an elbow becomes inflamed due to injury from a physical activity, it is because of a condition called lateral epicondylitis, mainly referred to as tennis elbow. This injury is mainly characterized by pain on the outer side of elbow joints that can spread to other parts of the arm as far as the shoulder and the wrist. Tennis players are not the only people who suffer from this condition; anyone can get it even when they do not play tennis. It takes the straining of the elbow joints and repetitive motion to damage these tissues. When there is repetitive and intense swinging of the arm, the lateral epicondyle on the elbow tendons become inflamed and that is how the tennis elbow comes about. It often affects the predominant arm and if your daily activities involve the swinging of the arm even through slashing, digging, hammering or raking, you are at risk of getting the tennis elbow.
