A Pocket Watch Stand Is Important
When you are buying pocket watch accessories, it’s important to know that there are things that are plain old nice to have, and other things that are almost necessary — like a pocket watch stand. If you don’t look forward to paying costly payments for pocket watch repairs or dislike thinking about your pocket watch with scratches, then you might want to look into a stand.
I once heard a story of someone who inherited an open faced railroad pocket watch from a family member. He wasn’t ever that interested in horology or timepieces, but this one struck a chord with him. He learned it was of some value, quite rare in fact, and began to get attached to it. After figuring out how to wear a pocket watch, and getting it repaired and cleaned, so it was in great and accurate shape, he started to use it more and more. He showed this watch off almost all the time. Unfortunately, because he placed it on his mantle, it fell and broke on a tile floor. The pocket watch stopped working; the glass was broken and the outside was cosmetically looking awful.
He contacted a silver pocket watch repairman and was quoted a hefty $450 for repairs and everything — but with no guarantee on the cosmetics. For nearly the value of the watch before it was damaged, and with other bills looming, it didn’t seem logical to fix the watch.
What this friend of mine quickly discovered was that it pays (maybe literally) to buy a pocket watch stand. A pocket watch stand, by all accounts of so many people, can surely prevent these kinds of incidents from happening to you or your friends and family. By keeping your watch secured in a stand, as opposed to a mantle or shelf, you significantly decrease the chances of anything bad happening. In closing, if you choose to invest a small sum of money into purchasing a pocket watch stand, your watch will thank you.
