If you tend to consume alcohol and are beginning to worry about your life and overall health, then the best thing to do is to stop drinking. Alcohol has many side effects and can negatively impact your life in many ways. Alcohol hinders your overall physical health, has negative social effects, and can negatively impact your mental health.

The first side effect of alcohol consumption is the negative impact it has on your physical health. Alcohol consumption is directly related to increased risk of liver damage, heart disease, kidney damage, and obesity. Alcoholics are also several more times more likely to smoke cigarettes and take recreational drugs which leads to many other negative physical side effects.  Some people do not drink every day but they are still hard core alcoholics who have a serious problem.  In this case, it is important that they realize that alcohol still leads them into trouble and that they need to stop binge drinking.

Another side effect of excess alcohol consumption is the negative social impact it can have on your life. Alcoholism often leads to stressful relationships which can cause divorce and lost relationships with friends and family. Alcoholics tend to have much shorter tempers, especially when intoxicated which leads to poor decisions such as fighting or driving while intoxicated. Many alcoholics also have a difficult time keeping a steady job, which leads to money issues and can cause even more stress.

The mental side effects of alcoholism can be the most damaging to alcoholics. Alcoholism often leads to anxiety, depression, and other serious permanent mental conditions such as mania. In some severe cases, alcoholism caused depression can lead to suicide.

Luckily for alcoholics there are many ways to stop drinking. If you have alcoholic tendencies than you should seek help immediately. Many alcoholics find solace by attending rehab and then regular Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. If you want to cut down on your drinking, the best thing you can do is to find new hobbies that don’t involve alcohol consumption. In some extreme cases you may want to find new friends to socialize with who don’t influence your alcoholism.
