Beginners Guide to Selecting a Metal Garage Kit
Many of us don’t have the luxury of having an attached garage. Believe me, I would love to have one so that I don’t expose my car to the harsh New England winters and having to dig my way out of the snow every morning. Unfortunately, I don’t have the space or budget to build an attached garage. So I started looking for affordable alternatives and found metal carport kits.
At first I was a little skeptical of how it would look. I just had this vision of a low quality, aluminum shed sitting in my backyard. It would leak during the winter months and cook everything inside of it during the summer months. Eventually, after a couple of months it would end up rusting out and I would have to replace it with another crappy aluminum shed. But, that was far from the case. I found a high quality steel carport kit that is perfect for my property.
Before you start searching for anything, you need to determine how much space you’re willing to give up. Carports come in all kinds of sizes, so in order to cut down on your search and options, you’ll need to know how big of a carport you’ll need for the space. Make sure it’s a little larger than you think you need. More than likely you’ll want to use it as an extra storage space.
The next step is determing where you want to put it. Techinically, since it’s portable, you can put it anywhere. But, lets be a little realistic. The closer you have it towards the street, the easier it will be to park your car on a daily basis. And, if you plan on laying down a cement driveway, you don’t want to lay too much as it can get expensive.
One more thing, you’ll want to determine your budget. It might surprise you, but there are a lot of high end garages that can cost as much as building an attached garage to your home. So figure out how much money you’re willing to spend and find the best carport in that price range. This step will also help reduce your search time and gaurantee that you find a carport that fits your needs without breaking your budget.
You can find high qualting carports at any of your big box hardware stores like Lowes or Home Depot. However, to find the best deals, it’s best to start your search online. You’ll find more options and better prices that you could at a physical retailer since then don’t have to maintain a store front.
