Buying a Used Surfboard
Instead of emptying your bank account on a new surfboard why not get a used board? You can pick up a second hand board for significantly less than you’ll spend on a brand new board. For anyone who is having their first go surfing there’s no point to spending a fortune for a brand new board as in all probability you’ll soon wish to change the beginner’s board for a better more experienced surfer’s board. Browse below at the different picks of surfboards you can buy.
The shortboard comes in a wide variety of styles and designs but one thing all the shortboards have in common is that they are not very suitable for beginners, you don’t want a shortboard until you are an experienced surfer, as the shortboard is too sleek and an unstable platform for a novice but does allow the skilled surfer to perform tricks and turns which makes it excellent for surfing competitions.
The Fish Surfboard – During the summer or at times when waves are not very big you will need a board which is suitable for these conditions. The answer for the shortboard is the fish surfboard, this is a short wide surfboard which is great for getting maximum speed for even the smallest of waves. The fish is a very popular choice of surfboard in countries which do not have big waves but still have an experienced surfing community.
Their are two different types of longboard surfboards which are the classic malibu or nose rider which is a traditional heavy surfboard which will catch any wave and the performance malibu which lighter weight and design allows you to turn and do tricks easier. The longboard surfboard is a very traditional and stable design which makes it suitable for beginners, this also makes it very easy to catch all the waves.
If you stand near the middle of the Mini Mal then you will get great stability and predictable handling and because the Mini Mal is quite light you can control the board easier, this is great for beginners as it makes it easier to learn to surf. The Mini Mal is fantastic in choppy conditions or when the surf is not very big which allows surfers to keep surfing in difficult conditions for longer. The underside of the Mini Mal can be shaped to give different characteristics such as a vee will iron out choppy conditions and concaves liven up the board for better performance in difficult condtions. Stand near the fins and you will get tight turns together with very accurate performance all this means the Mini Mal is a great all round surfboard.
When you go surfing the biggest problem apart from standing-up on the board is going to be transporting your surfboard to the beach as most surfboards are quite long. If you drive a pickup truck it might not be a problem but most people don’t own a pickup, so the best alternative is going to be Surfboard racks, these racks carry surfboards on the top of your vehicle and come in a variety of designs and styles depending on what type you want and how many boards you need to carry.
Surfboard racks come in three different designs the most expensive is the locking surfboard rack which is great for security of your boards as you can lock your boards into the rack for added security preventing theft. The fixed surfboard rack is a rack which you can perminantly attach to your vehicle, once attached all you have to do is load the rack with your boards and away you go, this is great for frequent surfers. The last type of surfboard rack is the soft surfboard rack which is just like a bag with straps which you attach to the roof of the vehicle each time you want to go surfing. This is also a great option if you are just hiring a vehicle or you dont want a rack permanently attached to the roof of your vehicle.
