As a general rule most people think that is you can buy cars under 1000 dollars you are buying clunkers.  However with the advances of modern technology and the way that car companies have begun constructing cars to last longer that is simply not the case anymore.  Certainly even five or 10 years ago, going to a used car lot and seeing a bunch of cars under 1,000 dollars meant that lot had a lot of cars no one in their right mind would buy.  But in this day and age that simply means that the particular car lot has a lot of good deals on hand.

You still need to be careful of what you buy as clunkers and lemons can certainly still be had for the low, low price of almost nothing.  Those cars still exist and for the most part they are the ones the less reputable of car dealerships will try to unload on you first as they hope no one will notice the backfiring when the engine starts, or the whining hum as you pull out from the lot.

Cheap cars can be had, and they can last another half decade if you treat the machine correctly.  Good maintenance and loving care of a car that has quite a few miles on it can help that car go quite a few more.  There are even many online dealerships that offer a good deal on a car that has been put through the ringer but is still going.  With databases that track accidents, and owners and everything else its fairly safe to buy a car that looks like it might be too good to be true.  That is of course if that car is actually registered on the various tracking databases.  If a buyer is smart finding quality cheap used cars under 1000 dollars isn’t all that hard anymore.
