I’ve discovered there’s an entire underbelly to the whole tattoo removal market. No, I’m talking about doctors in India who will do a little tattoo excision for mega cheap, although I suppose that’s probably a possibility too if you wanted to pursue it. I’m talking about tattoo removal cream – a huge industry that operates nearly entirely online, selling it’s products directly to consumers who wish to remove a tattoo on their own. It’s a popular item to buy directly from the manufacturer or through a number of other outlets, such as Ebay sellers and folks at Amazon.

But does it work? That seems to be the million dollar question and everyone keeps passing the buck, except for the companies themselves. What I mean is that you’ve got quotes from medical associations casting doubt on the effectiveness of tattoo removing creams yet they won’t come outright and say what effect they will have. There’s the expected comment wars going on within any blogs that talk about tattoo creams, but who knows what to believe in that kind of forum when it just turns into a shouting match between anonymous people posting comments online.

The companies themselves though seem to have no problem pushing cheap tattoo removal cream as a solution to removing tattoos. Most of them seem damn confident in their products ability to remove tattoos. They supplement this confidence with money back offers and photos, some of which obviously look like it was done by a 12 year with Photoshop and some extra time on his hands, whereas other example look truly legit, with each photo showing casual fading of the tattoo until it’s nearly imperceptible.

What to believe? I don’t know, but curiosity – or my desire to save money – got the best of me. I ordered a $75 starter kit from one of the popular tattoo removal creams companies out there to see if it would work any magic on my wrist tattoo. Let’s hope cheap tattoo removal cream is as good as the sellers suggest it is, otherwise, it’s back to long sleeved tshirts for me for yet another year until I can save up enough for laser treatments or something similar like rejuvi cream.
