Finding An Available Used Car For Sale

Feb 22nd, 2010 | By brixarticles | Category: Auto, Featured

Most people can’t afford to buy a brand new car because of the premium that is paid when the auto is not pre-owned.  This bothers a lot of people but in reality it does not make good financial sense to purchase a brand new car because of the instant drop in value once it has been driven off the lot.  If you buy a new car and drive it only around the block one time, if you try to sell it you will have to reduce the price by several thousand dollars less than what you paid for it 5 minutes before.  Buying a pre-owned or used car is a much better idea.

But the question is where is a good place to find an available car to purchase?  Most used car lots are not the best place to look.  The goal of these people is to buy low and sell high.  This means they will try to sell the car at the high end of its actual worth.  You are much better off to purchase the automobile from a private party, this means someone who owns the car now and wants to sell it for a variety of reasons.

The first step in the purchasing process is to understand what the value of the car is according to the industry standards.  The Kelly Blue Book is a great place to find out this information.  This actually used to be a blue covered book that gave values of cars for the wholesale price, retail price, and trade-in value.  Now it is all done online which makes it much more efficient.  All you have to do is type in the year and make and model of the car.  You are then asked a few questions about options and the site will give you a suggested value.  With this information in hand you will know if the asking price is fair and also you have some ammunition for negotiating.

To find available cars for purchase you can look in the newspaper and then use the Blue Book site to find the true value.
