Introduction to an Auto Body Shop
Nobody ever wants to visit an auto body shop. This is the place you go if something has happened causing damage to your vehicle. You have gotten into an accident or something else bad has happened to your car or pickup. Hopefully the vehicle is the only thing that needs to see a specialist.
A place that fixes dented and damage parts on your vehicle is called a body shop. This is a large building that has racks to straighten the frame of a vehicle. They have different places to straighten body parts like fenders, hoods and quarter panels. There is all kinds of specialty hammers in this section that can be used to hammer a part back in shape. There is also a spot in the shop where they mold and shape the part back into original shape. They use Bondo fiberglass products to fill in and shape parts to normal. They sand and file as they form these pieces to look as good as the original part did. If they have to replace body parts they can do that to. Most body shops will use new parts unless they find used ones that are in excellent condition.
The painting process has really changed. They used to paint cars in the wide open shop space. Now the body shop has a special booth designed for painting. Everything is inside the booth they need to paint the vehicle. This location is specially heated to give your paint a baked on finish. This finish is stronger than normal paint finish. Paint products have changed through the years as well. Now the color selection is endless and they have some paints that will change colors depending on the location of the car or truck.
Body work is an art form. To take a wrinkled up vehicle or rusted out vehicle and make it look like new is special. Experienced auto body shop employees are trained to do a professional job.
