If you’re purchasing a surf board you will have to determine what type of surfboard to buy; see below for some surfboard information.
The shortboard comes in a wide variety of styles and designs but one thing all the shortboards have in common is that they are not very suitable for beginners, you don’t want a shortboard until you are an experienced surfer, as the shortboard is too sleek and an unstable platform for a novice but does allow the experienced surfer to perform tricks and turns which makes it great for surfing competitions.
The fish surfboard’s design of being short and fat allows it to generate high speeds from even the smallest of waves. These properties make it suitable for countries which don’t get big waves or during summer months when the waves are not as big. The fish surfboard is not suitable for beginners as being a shortboard it is still quite unstable, however the fish surfboard is king for generating speed and allowing tricks and turns from small waves.
The traditional Longboard surfboard has a very stable design which makes it a perfect surfboard for beginners. Due to its design it will catch all the waves so it is also a favorite of the more knowledgeable surfer when conditions will not allow good surfing with a shortboard. The longboard surfboard is the original first used surfboard and although the designs, materials and shapes have changed the longboard surfboard is still a firm favourite with surfers around the world.
If you stand near the middle of the Mini Mal then you will get great stability and predictable handling and because the Mini Mal is quite light you can control the board more easily which is great for beginners as it makes it easier to learn to surf. The Mini Mal is fantastic in choppy conditions or when the surf is not very big which allows surfers to keep surfing in difficult conditions for longer. The bottom of the Mini Mal can be shaped to give different characteristics such as a vee will iron out choppy conditions and concaves liven up the board for better performance in difficult condtions. Stand near the fins and you will get tight turns and a very accurate performance all this means the Mini Mal is a great all round surfboard.
