The amber is one of the most beautiful gemstones you can buy. Common in Eastern Europe and the Dominican Republic in the Caribbean they gemstones are actually resin that dripped from trees many millions of years ago and fossilized. Sometime you can even get lucky and find one with a fossilized insect embedded for eons inside the amber. The stones from Eastern Europe however are different than their western counterparts. Yellow and golden amber is the most common type and can be found universally but blue and green amber can only be found in Dominica. Amber is almost never cut or faceted in any way. There reason for this is that it is a soft material, when compared to other precious stones, and can be damaged. Also if there is a fossil trapped inside, it can also be damaged. The stones are usually used in their uncut form also sometimes shaping with a soft grinder is done.
