The shortboard is still probably the most popular choice of surfboard for the expert surfer, this is because this type of board gives you a better performance and higher speed than the longboard. This makes the shortboard ideal for fast manouverable turns and tricks. The shortboard is not suitable for beginners as they are short, thin and unstable, which makes them difficult to balance on and as a novice you would usually want a more stable platform than a shortboard.

In countries which do not get big waves or when conditions aren’t producing big waves the fish surfboard is the answer. A short fat surfboard which develops high speeds and is very manouverable even in the poorest of conditions. The fish surfboard is the master of generating high speeds from small or very little waves; this gives you more opportunity of surfing throughout the year thus maximizing your surfing opportunities.

There are two different types of longboard surfboards which are the classic malibu or nose rider which is a traditional heavy surfboard which will catch any wave and the performance malibu which lighter weight and design allows you to turn and do tricks easier. The longboard surfboard is a very traditional and stable design which makes it suitable for beginners, this also makes it very easy to catch all the waves.

If you stand near the middle of the Mini Mal then you will get great stability and predictable handling and because the Mini Mal is quite light you can control the board easier, this is great for beginners as it makes it easier to learn to surf. The Mini Mal is great in choppy conditions or when the surf is not very big which allows surfers to keep surfing in difficult conditions for longer. The underside of the Mini Mal can be shaped to give different characteristics such as a vee will iron out choppy conditions and concaves liven up the board for better performance in difficult condtions. Stand near the fins and you will get tight turns and a very accurate performance all this means the Mini Mal is a great all round surfboard.

When you go surfing the biggest problem apart from standing-up on the board is going to be transporting your surfboard to the beach as most surfboards are quite big. If you have a pickup truck it might not be a problem but most people don’t own a pickup, so the best alternative is going to be surfboard racks, these racks carry surfboards on the top of your vehicle and come in a variety of designs and styles depending on what type you want and how many boards you need to carry.

There is a wide variety of surfboard racks to choose from but most of these can be broken down into 3 main catagories; The locking surfboard rack which gives the best security but is the most expensive opion. The fixed surfboard rack which is a hard framed rack which is perminantily attached to the roof of your vehicle. The soft surfboard rack which is just like a bag with straps which you can quickly attach to any vehicle, a good option if you are using different vehicles or rental vehicles or even dont want a rack always attached to your vehicle.
