There are many reasons why tea is the most popular non-water beverage in the world. Aside from tasting great, tea has been used for nearly the entire span of history for medicinal uses as well. In recent years, tea has found new attention for its ability to help those of us who are trying to lose weight burn extra calories and lose more weight than we would be able to otherwise.

When people in ancient China needed to treat a medical problem, they did not go to the local drug store to pick up a prescription. They went to an apothecary who prepared different blends of tea that were designed to treat a variety of different conditions. One such condition that had its own blends of tea is obesity. Weight loss teas have been on the market for thousands of years, and tend to be prepared from white tea, oolong tea, or green tea.

One of the most common slimming teas that you are going to find is green tea. When you drink green tea, it causes the furnace of your metabolism to burn faster and hotter, which benefits your weight loss efforts in that it causes you to burn extra calories. If this weren’t enough, it also helps regulate both your appetite and your blood sugar, which will result in you eating less. Taking into account only the extra calories that green tea burns, you will probably burn about an extra 70 calories per day simply by drinking four or five cups per day.

The next most commonly used weight loss tea that you are going to find is oolong tea. Oolong tea is one of the most commonly served teas in China as a beverage, and is considered to be quite healthy. It contains more caffeine than green tea, so it will stimulate your metabolism a bit more. It will also help your body more readily digest fat. Like green tea, oolong tea works best when you drink about five cups per day.

Next on our list, you will find white tea. Now, aside from working to boost the metabolism, white tea has a curious ability to help prevent the body from creating fat cells in the first place, while at the same time improving its ability to use fat as fuel. Again, three to five cups of white tea per day is recommended.

Two additional kinds of tea that you are going to run across when looking at different kinds of slimming teas are herbal tea and pu-ehr tea. Some people believe that pu-ehr tea has cholesterol-lowering abilities as well. Some people don’t like pu-ehr tea because of its deeply earthly flavor, so it should be considered to be an acquired taste.

When you are trying to lose weight, drinking tea can definitely be beneficial. A healthy lifestyle demands healthy choices, and drinking tea is one of the best choices you can make. When you eat right, exercise, and take care of yourself, anyone can lose weight.
