Bangles are probably one of the most interesting and unusual pieces of jewellery you can find from any culture. After all, everyone wears bracelets, which are basically nothing but a chain (or a necklace) that is shortened and worn around the wrist – but the bangle is something entirely unique, a perfectly circular piece of jewellery designed to slip onto a lady’s elegant hand, and yet not fall off.

To understand the allure of bangles, of course, we have to understand the context in which they arose. In all likelihood, bangles were first worn in African or Asian countries. Currently, they are primarily seen as a typically Indian piece of jewellery – an idea popularized by ideas of the traditional Indian wedding, in which the brides arms are almost entirely covered with heavy bangles, dripping of gold or silver.

Interestingly, many people feel that silver bangles pose the highest appeal. This is somewhat true, because gold bangles can sometimes be difficult to match with outfits (unless you are wearing a lot of other gold items of course), because gold is one of those metals that just tends to outshine everything else in its radius. By contrast, silver is a well-behaved and sophisticated metal that knows how to sparkle when necessary, and how to stay subtle when necessary. That, in fact, is the very definition of sophisticated jewellery.

As mentioned at the gold jewellery expert, bangles are most often found in India, but more people outside of India have begun to wear them. Even these days, however, bangles are quite unusual to see on non-Indian women. When they are worn by non-Indian women, however, they make quite an impact (just as they do when they are worn by Indian women, of course). There are very few things that will catch the eye of everyone in the room like a cluster of gorgeous, glittering bangles on a slender wrist. And after all, isn’t catching the eye of everyone in the room what jewellery is all about?
