Retro lamps are part of the rise and fall of an era that was big on letting ideas out free allowing them to go where ever they want to and also on trialing. In the middle of the 20th century a wide selection of lamps came out which largely spoke of the imaginative innovation of the designers. Many new materials were suddenly available and this led to endless possibilities, not only in style but also in color.

There were many different types of colors that were very big in the retro era, but for some reason burnt orange, dirty tan and a sickly avocado seemed to have become the sorts of colors that held the most fascination. Sure, they weren’t the only colors that were available but the evidence certainly points to the fact that the popularity was high. Simple but sometimes bold decorative touches were used in ensuring that the creations stood out. A pottery table lamp may have been paired with a lamp shade made of lucite to bring together an unexpected final appearance. Anything went and for the most part it worked.

For a bit, we became fairly fed up of anything and everything that reminded us of the 1970s. The retro style had most definitely fallen out of favor. Anything that was remotely reminiscent of representing this period in time was shunned and ridiculed as a period that style forgot.

But then after a while, as most styles do, the retro style climbed back up to importance and retro table lamps have once again become an important part in helping to define a room. Even if a modern-day room were being filled lamps from the retro era can today be used to look just as good as they would have in older style rooms and this is good news for those who have hung onto their old lamps.

Retro was hip, then it became passé but the popularity is on the rise again. The look of retro style lamps is still a rather newish look and the style is quite significant in today’s contemporary and rather free appeal. As a result it is now quite possible to find retro style lamps in most department or home furnishing stores.
