Gold is the choice of metal for quality timepieces and wristwatches in particular, with titanium coming in a close second. This has been the situation for the last 2 decades in the watch making industry. There are many different manufacturers producing titanium watches in the present market, so there is an excellent range of titanium wristwatches to choose from.

Watches of one form or another have been in use for the past 500 years and the wristwatch as we know it only stared being produced at the beginning of the twentieth century. In fact until World War I, wrist watches were considered a woman’s fashion accessory. Since that time and even more so since World War II, wristwatches, now a unisex accessory, have become more and more popular. Manufacturers have tussled to get to the top of the pile and inherit the mantle of maker of the most fashionable and prestigious watches.

Being a middle of the road watchmaker is not difficult. By simply purchasing the working mechanism from another manufacturer, and by re-branding it and marketing it as your own, you will have the appearance of being a watchmaker, along with many other pretenders. There are a lot less real watchmakers, those that take the idea for a watch and all of it’s components through the production process, to come out the other side with a quality timepiece.

Often it is difficult to differentiate between an ordinary watch and a quality wristwatch. In many cases it is the watch making company that can project itself onto the publics consciousness through excellent branding and advertising, that will in fact be seen as a producer of unique and quality timepieces, meaning among other things, that they can charge more for their product.

However, there are some qualities that are expected in a watch that is being marketed as a quality wristwatch. It is expected that the workings of the wristwatch would be mechanical, rather that having a movement of lesser quality. A quality watch would also be expected to have a casing which is made from a sought after metal, such as titanium.
