When it comes to growing your plants indoors there are a couple of things that are needed in order to see the same results as you would if they were outdoors. In either case you will need three basic things water, food and a light source. The only difference between growing your lights indoors is that you use a grow light in place of the sun as your light source. The problem comes in to play when people go to purchase a grow light and realize that there are many different types, variations, sizes and power outputs do not know which one to pick, it can get very confusing very fast. The first and probably most common type of grow light is the florescent light t5 style. The t5 is a grow light that uses a long florescent bulb to emit light wavelengths that resemble the sun. These are popular options for those who are on a budget and who have large-scale indoor gardens. You should consider buying these types of lamps if you have a lot of space and a large amount of plants such as a couple of rows of roses that you are trying to grow during the winter to get a head start for the spring. These lights are great at covering large areas with enough light to make them useful in the photosynthesis process.
The next types of grow lights that we are going to be going over are LED grow lights. These lights are great for growing seedlings and for small-scale areas. These lights do have an advantage over all of the other types of grow lights as they only emit the type of light that a plant uses for photosynthesis and do not waste unnecessary resources. These are great lights if you have small areas to grow in such as an apartment room or closet. These lights cost you more in the beginning but will end up saving you tons in the long run.
The last common type of grow light on the market today is the HID type grow light. These lights are commonly found in the hands of professional gardeners, as they do require some skill and attention to detail when being used and setup. If you are serious about your garden and have the time and dedication to spend in it then these grow lights might be an option for you.
Now that you know which types of grow lights are out there lets now look briefly at some things to look at when buying any of the above-mentioned lights. Always look at the wattage, lumen output, and lifetime of the light in working hours. Also you should always make sure that your lights come with a type of warranty.
