Weirdest Frogs
There are a lot of freaky weird animals out there that people like to keep as pets. Some of these animals are considerd by many to be exotic pets while others are just everyday normal animals like dogs, cats, amphibians, and reptiles. Amphibians like frogs and salamanders are fairly common as pets with a lot of people just going out to the local pond or marshland with their children to capture these weird creatures, but unlike the common frogs and salamanders that most people find in these places there are a few amphibians that are some of the weirdest animals on the planet!
One such amphibian is the Nasikabatrachus sahyadrensis or as it is more commonly known as the Purple frog or the pig nosed frog. This rare frog was just recently discovered in 2003 by biologists in the Western Ghats of India. The main reason why this purple colored frog has alluded biologists and scientist all these years is because the Purple Frog hides underground almost it’s entire life. This rare creature only comes out of it’s hole for a short time each year during the monsoon season of India in an effort to reproduce. Not only is the Purple Frog rare and odd looking, but it also has a really weird croak. Unlike making noises like a typical frog this strange creature bellows out a sound that resembles the noises that a chicken makes instead of a frog.
Another unusual frog is the Ceratophrys cornuta better known as the Suriname Horned Frog or the Amazonian Horned Frog. These strange looking frogs get the horned part of their name from horn like projections above each of its eyes. Thery are also know for having an unusually wide mouth, and even as a tadpole they have been known to attack other tadpoles no matter what species it is, even their own! Both the Purple Frog, and the Amazonian Horned Frog are just a small sample of the weird frogs and amphibians that share our world with us.
